This is why half of Philly wants McNabb gone

I guess it wasn't just the Super Bowl in which Donovan McNabb got tired in the second half. Here is a look at how his passer rating dips from the first half to the second half-both in 2009 and for his career.

This chart doesn't exactly scream "clutch" which is what every fan wants from his team's starting QB. This stat doesn't help McNabb's case either in terms of getting in the good graces of Philadelphia: In 2009 when the Eagles were within 7 points (in either direction) during the 4th quarter, McNabb did not throw a single TD pass (48 pass attempts). BTW just for comparison's sake, JaMarcus Russell threw 2 TDs in these situations in 15 fewer pass attempts. Ouch!!!

  1. He also went to 5 pro bowls while only being selected by his peers twice. He went as a Favre alternate and as Andy Reids pick because he was the coach. He will probably go this year to the pro bowl aka loser bowl because all the good players will not be playing.

  2. If you have the NFL average passer rating by quarter, that would help make your case better. An overview of some of the major QBs - Farve, Brady, Warner, etc. - using the NFL.com breakdown by half shows that most QBs' passer rating goes down in the 2nd half of games, for whatever reason. So, McNabb's not exactly a huge outlier on that, though his dip (103.2 to 77.2) is steeper than most of those guys...on the other hand, his rating does increase to 98.9 in the last 2 minutes of games, which is also consistent with most of the other top QBs.

The last stat sounds like you're torturing the data until it confesses, so specific is the criteria being used - it must be nearly the only positive stat one could find for Russell, who had a totally miserable year (did they win the games where he threw those TDs?). It'd be better to just show how McNabb's done over his career when the Eagles were down 14 or fewer points going into the 4th, that'd give a decent measure of "clutch"-ness.

  6. The fact of the matter is Mcnabb has not been able to make the big play when it was needed. Yes he didnt have he best talent. but look what peyton manning did this year. He had only reggie wayne and he went to the Superbowl. Mcnabb misses way to many open receivers.

  7. The half of Philly who want McNabb gone are the same ones who fall for the BS on this chart. What does it really say? His rating is higher earlier in the game and lower later...so what? When a winning team gets out to an early lead, which would lead a higher rating, a usually have a higher rating. When a team has a lead, they usually become more conservative, run more, and if they are classy, don't run up to the score. Hmmm, do you think THAT could cause a lower rating?!?! Please, stop trying to pass off this chart as an excuse to get rid of McNabb, that's as wrong as wanting to get rid of him in the first place!

McNabb has no great wins! who has he beaten ! 4th and 26th ! stop that was all freddie! eagles have had plenty of talent -top 5 Defense -top olines and back up QB`s who have won and taken team to playoffs !!! Wheres the great come backs ! O there are none ! 04 they played two good teams ! and got smoked by both Fact! fact is the 04 team played the weakest schedule ever for a SB team! the eagles have beaten up on the bums and have gotten smoked by the better teams and mcnabb always comes up lame!!!

  9. First of all...Manning had Reggie, Dallas Clark, Garcon, and most importantly they could run the ball when needed. Philly is HORRIBLE at running the ball. As for McNabb having a great team..the only great team he had has the SB year with Owens. Besides that...you're BS'ing if you say he didn't have average receivers and a so-so running game. Their only good receiver recently has been Jackson. Remember Pinkston? Don't make me laugh...

  10. The Philadelphia Eagles will find out just how great Donovan McNabb was when they let him go. Sports fans are stupid. All you guys do is get drunk & high, watch games, and then think that you know what's best for every team in the league.

McNabb has played his position at QB better than any other player has played his on that roster since he's been in Philly. He's the greatest player in Eagle history by far. Kevin Kobb can't even wear McNabb's dirtiest jockstrap.

The Eagles will have to improve across the board, like New Orleans did,if they ever expect to win a Super Bowl.

  11. this cahrt is kind useless taken in context by itself. if you chart the qb's from most teams the ratings go down on the good teams because, along with several other reasons most good teams are winning in the 3 and 4th quarter so the qb onlt throws to move the chains on like 3rd down.. get the idea???? this is an average over his career, again this chart might as well be how many people drink pepsi compared to beer in the 3 and 4th quarter... useless chart and i dont even like mcnabb.
